SlimBOXtv Custom Firmware for Allwinner TV Boxes: Install Guide

SlimBOXtv is a third-party custom firmware (Android TV style) built for many Allwinner TV boxes โ€” including the Tanix TX1 (H313). Here is how to get it and install it with PhoenixSuit.

โฌ‡ Download PhoenixSuit ๐Ÿ”Œ USB Drivers
โš ๏ธ SlimBOXtv is NOT official firmware. It is a community-built third-party ROM. Installing it can void your warranty, and a wrong or interrupted flash can brick your box. Proceed only if you accept that risk.

What Is SlimBOXtv?

SlimBOXtv is a custom firmware built by a third-party developer community (Russian origin) that gives budget TV boxes an Android TV-style interface โ€” cleaner launcher, TV-optimized apps, and often better performance than the stock firmware. Builds are released per device model; you must download the package made specifically for your box.

Because it is custom, support happens in the community, not from the box manufacturer. Several step-by-step flashing videos exist on YouTube if you prefer a visual walkthrough โ€” the actual flashing is still done with PhoenixSuit on a Windows PC.

Which Boxes Are Supported?

SlimBOXtv releases cover multiple Allwinner-based TV boxes. Before anything else, confirm your exact model โ€” a build for a different board will brick yours.

Tip: if your box uses a non-Allwinner chip (e.g. an Amlogic variant sold under a similar name), stop โ€” SlimBOXtv Allwinner builds and PhoenixSuit cannot work with it.

Where to Get the SlimBOXtv Firmware

โš ๏ธ We do not host SlimBOXtv files, and we will never link a “universal” build. Flashing the wrong build for your board is the fastest way to brick it.

To get the correct package:

  • Go to the SlimBOXtv official website and find the download section for your exact box model and hardware revision.
  • Check the project’s official Telegram channel โ€” releases and changelogs are announced there, and community members can confirm which build matches your box.
  • Never use a build made for a different box, even if the chip name matches โ€” partition layouts and Wi-Fi/remote drivers differ between boards.
  • Avoid “all-in-one” re-uploads on random file hosts; they are the most common source of mismatched or tampered images.

Install with PhoenixSuit (.img Method)

SlimBOXtv is distributed as a .img package, so it installs exactly like stock firmware โ€” with PhoenixSuit on a Windows PC:

  1. Install the Allwinner USB drivers on your PC first. Full walkthrough on our drivers page.
  2. Install PhoenixSuit from the official package.
  3. Get the correct SlimBOXtv .img for your exact model (see above). Save it somewhere easy to find.
  4. Open PhoenixSuit and load the .img via the Firmware tab.
  5. Put the box into FEL mode: unplug everything, hold the reset button (inside the AV port or a pinhole on most boxes), then plug in the USB cable. PhoenixSuit should pop up a prompt to format โ€” choose Yes. Warning: this wipes all data.
  6. Click Upgrade and wait. Do not unplug the USB cable or power until the green success bar appears.
  7. Unplug, connect to your TV, power on. First boot takes several minutes.

For a full illustrated walkthrough of every PhoenixSuit step, see our how to use PhoenixSuit guide.

โš ๏ธ Do not interrupt the flash. A power cut or unplugged cable mid-flash is the #1 cause of hard bricks. Plug the PC into mains power (not battery) and don’t touch anything until PhoenixSuit reports success.

After the Flash: Root and Magisk

Many SlimBOXtv builds ship pre-rooted, so you may already have root right after flashing. If yours does not and you need it:

  • Check the release notes of the exact build you installed โ€” the developer usually states whether root is included and how it is managed.
  • If you want Magisk, install it only following instructions for your specific build from the project’s official channel. Magisk procedures are build-specific; a generic guide can break the system.
  • Re-rooting or patching the boot image of a custom ROM always carries its own brick risk โ€” make sure you know how to reflash before you experiment.

Unbrick Tips

If the box won’t boot after flashing SlimBOXtv, work through these:

  • Reflash the stock firmware for your exact model first โ€” it is the most reliable way back to a working box. Get it from your seller or the box brand’s support page.
  • Re-enter FEL mode carefully: unplug everything, hold reset, plug in USB. Timing matters โ€” try several times.
  • Swap the cable and USB port: cheap charge-only cables are a classic failure point; use a known-good data cable and a rear motherboard USB port.
  • Reinstall the drivers: see device not detected and the drivers page.
  • Flash the correct .img again โ€” most “bricks” are just the wrong build for the board revision. Reflash with the right file.

๐Ÿงฑ Bricked beyond repair?

If repeated unbrick attempts fail, the board may be physically damaged โ€” a replacement box is usually cheaper than repair:
